Holly and I’s cabin was never a set in stone plan, really more of an idea that evolved organically.   From day one the dream came as we sat by the pond and looked at the beautiful trees. The location called to us, it begged for something.

I built these houses to move. We moved them with steel beams, bottle jacks, and a trailer. The initial move was from one side of the property to the other. It went well, no windows shattered, and the doors still open nicely.

I live in a place with cold winters, so I choose to use a small wood stove with a propane heater. My thinking was to use the wood as a primary source, and the propane if I ran out of wood, or decided to go skiing for a weekend out of town. Couldn't let the pipes freeze.

There's a lot of components with today's solar kits. I really enjoy wiring and electricity. I have experience wiring AC, so it was nice to dive into the DC world. I was lucky enough to have a knowledgable friend help me out, and set me in the right direction.

This is where you can set yourself apart. I played around with colors when finishing my exterior siding. It was risky, but worth it. I used local cedar siding, and many stains to make it look the way it does. Be careful!

In the two micro homes I've built, I used both new and recycled windows. In my experience the local window stores usually have a section hidden in the back with left over windows. You can usually pick them up for cheap. Recycled windows can take a lot of work to refinish.
